In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.

Bears Fan in Kansas

Being a Bears fan in Kansas is tough. Apparently, there are only 3 teams in the NFL that CBS and Fox feel Kansans want to follow: the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Dallas Cowboys.

Really?

So I've had to become a little creative in following my Bears come gameday. I go to WBBM online, home of Bears Radio in Chicago, to listen to the play-by-play, then go to NFL.com to pull up the game center to "watch" the action. The NFL game center is interesting, including statistics, a diagram of a football field with arrows showing the field direction of each team, first down markers, play-by-plays, and an exciting "TOUCHDOWN" or "FIELD GOAL" celebratory screen.

No, it isn't HD. Yes, the radio feed and the online gamecenter feed are not synchronized, so there's usually a 30 second delay, but at least I can follow the game. Much better than the old days when I was tormented into actually watching a Broncos or Cowboys or Chiefs game (oh my) just to follow the ticker along the bottom to see how the Bears were doing. Sad, really.

And so I sit in the chair in our study, feet propped on the ottoman, popcorn ready, maybe a beer, maybe a Dr. Pepper, and listen intently to Jeff Joniak and Tom Thayer while the tiny football moves down the virtual field.

I know what some of you are thinking. Is she crazy?

I'm a Bears fan in Kansas. What do you think?
