Quotes

In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.

Mortimer Adler

The Reading List

I've created a new page, the Reading List, which you may access above. What is this list? This is my MFA Reading List.

What is an MFA Reading List? In December I graduate with my MFA in Creative Writing. In order to graduate I will take a comprehensive exam, otherwise known as comps, based on a reading list of 30 books chosen from a master reading list. I picked the 30, they were confirmed by my final writing project director, and now I read. Or, have been reading.

Of the 30 I have already read 18. Not too bad. But, considering comps are sometime in November and I still have Don Quixote and The Tin Drum to tackle, I better get a move on.

So, I incorporated my reading list. Not sure why, except as a reminder to myself that instead of randomly blogging I should be reading. Also, in case any one is curious as to one of the requirements to obtain a degree in creative writing.

Many of the books already have excerpts listed on my "From the Pages," but I will be adding the new titles as I make my way. Currently, I am tackling The Tin Drum.  It is not going well. Earlier this summer I was on a mission. I read One Hundred Years of Solitude, Monkeys, The Kitchen God's Wife, and The Astronomers. It seems I've hit a wall. A book wall.

I may need a little encouragement. Especially since classes begin in 5 weeks.  5 WEEKS!

I better get going.
