Bikes, Books, and the End of a Semester
Thursday, May 7, 2009 I am so looking forward to May 14th. That is the last day of classes and the end of two weeks of endless writing and reading. And stressing. I actually had to see my Dr. two weeks ago for chest and stomach pains. After taking 5 vials of blood and an ab-chest-sonogram, the diagnosis? Stress related. I believe that stress has become the most diagnosed "disease" of our time. Let's just chalk it up to stress. And what to do about it? Here's something for your tummy, try and get some rest, and exercise.
Sure. Exercise. In between working, classes, taking a final, writing a 15-page paper on ecofeminist theory in magical realist texts, and a 20-page paper on women in the Mexican Revolution, I"ll work that in. Right after my nervous breakdown.
I did take time off last Friday for our annual Cavalcade of Bikes. This "not official River Festival event" usually takes place during the week of River Fest, but we had to reschedule earlier this year. A large group gathers to ride bicycles around Delano and Old Town, along the river, and through neighborhoods. Did I mention we stop at local bars? It has gotten to the point that the area bars look for us each year. We are quite the crew. However this year, possibly due to the earlier in May scheduling or the cloudy and cool weather, we didn't have as big a group. But, that definitely didn't stop us from having fun. Later in the evening, we stopped to see a few bands as part of the First Friday event.

It was great stress relief. Something I'll have to work on as I worry over my final two papers. I may have to make this bike thing a weekly event.

Isn't that right! Get plenty of rest and exercise several times a week. When?
Oh yes, after I get up from collapsing on my bed. I'm glad after May 14 you can take a deep breath and relax. You deserve it Lady!
Big hug!
