Feeling Kinda Sunday...
Monday, January 12, 2009 For some reason the little jingle to that commercial has been playing in my head. I did watch the Steelers/Chargers game, afterall nothing says football like snow. I'm a big believer in playing in the elements. I abhor the dome teams (Minnesota, Detroit, Indianapolis...). But, the true excitement was lacking with my Bears not making the playoffs, again.
Then, there was the Shocker game at 6:05. I confess that I missed the first 35 minutes. Usually, I attend mass on Sunday mornings, but yesterday it was just too comfy lounging in my pj's, drinking coffee, and sharing the newspaper with Brad. So, I went to what my mother lovingly calls, "hangover mass" at 5:00. There are two "last-chance" masses on Sundays, 5:00 & 7:00, so I picked the earlier of the two so I wouldn't miss too much of the game. And, maybe a little pre-mass would benefit the Shockers.
It ended in a loss, but there was improvement. There was actually more consistent shooting from the new starting five and the Shox actually played almost the entire game. Almost. Again, the last minute of the first half ended in Drake gaining the momentum and closing the gap to four going into halftime. The Shox, at one point, had a twelve point lead. But, the second half they hung in there, even tieing the game at 67. So, why the loss? Freshman mistakes (Kyles will relive that missed dunk the rest of the season). Turnovers. And lack of play from players we rely upon (Clemente, Hawkins).
But, like I said, there were signs of improvement. I will remain hopeful and...patient. I'm not getting too excited about Wednesday's game against Missouri State. We share the same basement record in the MVC, but at this point, that doesn't mean anything. Wednesday evening we could have that dismal ranking all to ourselves.
So, maybe I should start singing "feeling kinda Wednesday," in hopes of a victory Wednesday night. If not, I may have to start attending mass on a daily basis or as my mother also says, "break out the beads," the rosary beads that is.
