In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.

'Tis Healthy to be Sick Sometimes...

is a quote by Henry David Thoreau. I wonder what he was thinking. Surely this is only part of a much lengthier, significant quote. Because there was nothing healthy about what passed through our home last week. We were sick, flu sick. Stomach flu sick. Did I hear a collective groan of "ewww?" The kind of "ewww" reserved for unexpected gore scenes in a movie, fresh road kill, dog poo on a shoe, and yes, the flu.

I hate being sick. Of course,  I understand that no one out there likes being sick, actually looks forward to it, longs to be exposed to the dreaded bug. Thankfully, the "bad" flu doesn't last long, leaving only foggy memories of cold bathroom tile floors, wet facecloths, lukewarm 7up, muffled voices from concerned love ones through closed doors, the weight of five blankets, the thump of five blankets hitting the floor, the weight of five blankets again, the smell of chicken broth, Saltine crumbs in the sheets...

What could be worse? Your spouse begin struck down while still nursing you back to humanity. In sickness and in health? Share the love. And, right before Thanksgiving. Nothing like opening your home to relatives when you have been on the brink of the flu abyss. I'm sure they carried their own cans of Lysol in their bags and coat pockets, along with hand sanitizer and AirBorne, whatever talisman needed to ward off the evil flu spirits. Whatever, they must have worked because not only were we well by Thanksgiving morning (at least 92%), we had a wonderful day and so far, no one has succumbed to the dreaded sickness. Something to be very thankful.

Good job keeping the Flu germs away! All the Lysol spraying must have paid off. Both of us have remained healthy since since staying at your house. :) Maybe it was the wine and beer that assisted in killing the germs...Is that even possible? Love ya sis! -Lisa Lou
