If the Suit Fits...
Thursday, October 16, 2008 Some of you may recall my suit dilemma with JCrew (Customer Service) and how they had promised me a free suit. Free. No Charge (Saga of the Suit ). I'd almost forgotten about it. Almost.
Then, yesterday morning as I came down the hall there was a brown box sitting in the middle of the floor. Brad had placed it strategically where I could not miss it, as surprisingly this was not a ridiculously large box. "Did you see?" he asked, almost fearfully. It was from JCrew.
Hesitantly, I opened the box and inside was the infamous suit jacket. I placed it carefully on my bed and went to class to take my midterm. Yes, I waited to try it on. I'd waited this long!
When I returned home I went straight to the jacket, curious to see if it was actually still there in my bedroom. I'd begun to think that maybe I'd hallucinated the whole thing, if it wasn't for Brad urging me to try it on. So, I did. It fit. Not only did it fit, it fit beautifully. I've been looking for a suit for a year and have had no success. All the suit jackets I tried on were too short in sleeve length. Except this one. This JCrew jacket. The bane of my existence these past few months.
"Are you going to keep it?" I heard that question over and over in my head as I stood before the mirror. Afterall, this was their fault, I only asked for my money back and for them to cancel the order. I never asked for anything more.
I could hear the voices of tiny angels (or devils) sitting atop my shoulders, poking me in the side of the head, "Keep it...keep it...they offered, keep it." Funny, their voices sounded strangely like Chandra, Krista, Bobby, Brad....
I hung the suit in my closet and tossed the box in the trash. If it hadn't fit, it would have been a whole other story. But, as they say, if the suit fits keep it. I think I'll write JCrew a nice letter, this time.
